Menorca

Menorca is the most northern and eastern island of the Balearics and can be seen as one big open-air museum, as there are some many traces of historical buildings left behind on this island. It is believed that here the oldest conserved pieces of architecture in Europe can be found. Also the British left behind clear markings of their ruler ship, as they owned Menorca for more than a century.

Over 200 “navetos” (towers looking like upturned boats) located on the island indicate that around 2100 BC already people lived on the island of Menorca. Menorca was greatly influenced by many civilizations (including the Carthaginians, Romans, Greeks, Moors, Spanish, English and the French), traces of their cultures can be found all over the island.

Along the entire rocky coastline there are about 120 beaches, coves and bays. Unlike Ibiza and Mallorca that are filled with hotels, bars, restaurants and luxury beach resorts, Menorca has only are couple laid back beach resorts on the island. If you are looking for true relaxation, this is the place to be.
