Fishing in Valencia
Valencia does not offer lots of fishing spots. The best place for fresh water fishing would be at the Amadorio Dam or the Guadelest’s Dam (both near Benidorm), but you would have to drive a couple of hours.
However, the Albufera de Valencia nature reserve, which is about 16 km to the south of the city of Valencia is renowned internationally for the myriad of birds and animals that live in this special habitat. This is due to its location by the sea, yet with freshwater rivers feeding into it, which creates a variety of fresh, brackish and saltwater wetlands, and is home to 33 different species of fish. Although some sections of the reserve are private property, it is possible to go fishing here.
Fishing fans that enjoy camping can combine the two at the Malvarrosa de Corinto campsite, which includes fishing as one of its many activities on offer.
For fresh water fishing there is no national licence system in Spain, but you will need a regional permit. You can apply for a permit at the Valencia Tourist Office
(C. Paz, 48, Tel: 3986422).
The Mediterranean coastline is perfect for a day of open sea fishing. In many of the harbours near to Valencia you will find open sea fishing day trip organisers with reasonable prices. Open sea fishing is a totally different and exciting experience, one you should really try.
