Crime

The majority of crime in Valencia is non-violent petty theft such as bag snatching and pick pocketing. Pick pocketing is the most common crime in Spain and it is important to be aware of your surroundings and the location of your belongings. Be particularly wary of alley ways in the late hours of the night and very crowded places where someone can easily bump into you. Also be sure not to carry more than you need with you at any time.

There are several toll free numbers that one can use throughout Spain that are useful to know in case you are the victim of a crime. The first and perhaps most useful is the Emergency Services number, 112, where one can get almost any kind of emergency aid. The number for the National Police and victims of serious crime is 091, and for less serious incidents such as muggings one should call the Policia Municipal at 092.
